Today it is customary to remember your ancestors with love and affection. Today you recollect the start they gave you to come this far. You truly feel indebted and offer your prayer to God to keep them in peace for all that they gave you.
Receiving is rarely an unmixed blessing. When you receive without paying for it, you can hardly choose. But you can never get something without paying for it. You continue to pay for it through out. You carry their thoughts, mannerism, beliefs and what not. At times you feel bewildered to see you act in a manner without any logic - like a disease running in the family. You never know why you act in that manner and you never know why you carry that disease. Yet you carry it. Each time you try to shed it, it comes back with double vigor[like the myth of Sisyphus].
You carry the cross - the weight, pain and the pride and satisfaction. You pay your obeisance. You smile in pain and feel proud. You are the SON.
As any person I see the world through my own eyes and it looks so different from what others see. At times I find it difficult to relate to the sight of others and afraid to speak out what I see as i do not know whose sight is correct. I stand silently to watch and look intently with squeezed eyes to get a glimpse of what others see. I find them there coexisting with what I see. But why others never see what I see ? I do not know. But may be some see it. This is an attempt to relate to them.

OM SHANTI !
As you meet people around, mostly you will listen them saying that they want peace. But do they ? When we talk about wanting more money mostly it shows that we don't know what material things we will like to have [ OR we don't want to spell out what we want for fear of disaproval] for it is for sure that we can't use money without converting it to something else. Is their something hidden when we express our desire for peace likewise ?
What is peace ? As I see it, it should be a station from where you don't want to move. Essentially it a stationery situation so fulfilling that you do not want to change it, something like you feel when you try to get up from a sleep but do not feel like.
Can it happen in reality ? How it can. The world keeps changing every moment. You are changing and everything around you is also changing asking for a response to the changes. The way is to keep moving at such a pace that your relative placement does not change. Or if you can train yourself to be impervious to the changes. May be for that all the regions talk about accepting things humbly as God's Grace. May be that's the way.

When The Mask Wears You
As an young boy I acted in a stage play like many of my kind. Those were times when we were not finding young girls opting to take roles in them. Inevitably we had to manage with young boys who had not started showing the darkness on the cheeks as it happens when the beard starts showing. We were told by our director to read the script and enter into the roles. In fact he made us call each other by the script names before about a week of staging it. He said it will help to play the roles on the stage against each other. We were so happy to get a chance to stage a drama and a role in it that we were accepting almost anything that was being told to us. But it was quite an effort to call your friend with a feminine name and it was much more embarrassing for him to respond to it. And these were our adolescent times making it much more difficult. As the day of action was nearing we found it almost natural to fall into this play within the play without a hitch after the initial discomfort. We found it almost amusing when our friends called us afterwards by our stage names to tease. But gradually these things died their natural death and we came out of the Mask of our roles to ourselves and moved with our lives.
Every time it does not happen that smoothly. Just think about the gaits and styles we pick up to emulate great people or contemporary style. What about the many who started with smoking to be thinkers like Sir Winston Churchill ? Have they been able to come out of the mask ? What about the Marxists / Rightists / Gandhian / Liberals / Hindus / Muslims / Christians / Buddhists / Sikhs etc. Is it ever possible for them to come out of the Mask and see the events from the prospective of a normal human being sans the riders ? It is then that the Mask wears you. You try to act in a way the Mask would like you to act. You get dissociated from your essence which made you try the mask in the first place.
The more you allow the Mask to wear you the more distant you become from yourself. You dare not walk back to yourself as you are afraid to loose the privileges the mask has brought to you. You see your true self in lesser position and thereby denigrate yourself. But you are not happy with it for you are always afraid that the mask may slip and expose you. To protect it you withdraw yourself from people while wanting publicity. A strange recipe made to make you brittle and unhappy. Yet you clutch the Mask as your last help and allow it to wear you.
You remember the story of the jackal who fell into the indigo-pot of the washer man by mistake and picked up a blue hue. He projected the strange colour as the insignia of approval of God and became the King among the animals. He always tried to be far from the other jackals lest they recognise him and lived in fear of getting exposed. But he could not leave the Royal privileges and come clean. He was finally exposed when a jackal barked near him and he responded out of habit. His game up, the big cats felt humiliated for accepting him as the king and killed him instantly.
Do we have to wait for others to take away our mask and humiliate us ? Should we allow our mask to wear us till our death ? Or should we dare to drop the mask and reinvent ourselves ? We have nothing to loose except for our mask.

WHY WE WORK
It is almost impossible to find somebody working just for nothing. When we think of starting on some plan it inevitably means we have to change our prevalent life style to substitute with a new one including the new-entrant in some space. This again means readjusting the available space. No doubt it is not that pleasant unless the pleasure we hope to get from the new project tilts the scale. How do you work then for sake of the work without looking for the result ? This is only possible if you are unemployed and the resources with you are becoming a burden on you by non-use. You just have to learn driving if you are gifted a vehicle and you cannot pay for the driver. You will not waste the vehicle !
But this is not an every day scenario and yet Gita exhorted you to work for work sake without wishing for the result. This obviously means that you have to choose the work in such a way that the process itself is a result i.e. you get pleasure from the process itself and that overwhelms the pain you suffer from working in the process. This happens when you love the work for itself and not for what it pays. It can only happen naturally when you have the choice to pick the work and not when you have to look out for any paying job to pay for your living.
It does not take much to realise that these types are available only at the fringes and these are not the mainline events. So most of us find ourselves not too happy as we neither like the process that we have to go through everyday nor the results of these works from the way it touches us. Are we then condemned to a life of unhappiness ? But it does not feel that way from the way people around us behave. What then must be susstaining them ?
I feel the saving factor must be the fact that our job is good enough to pay us for indulging in something we love. That must be the factor why every morning we trudge out albeit reluctantly towards our workplaces even when we don't like the job / place or Boss. In a way we are motivated by our own expectations from what ever pleasure we indulge in and if the job pays for it. We may choose otherwise if the pain from the work / workplace or boss takesover the expected pleasure for which the job pays or if the job does not pay enough for it.
So if you are not too happy with your present work and do not find a better alternative, just do not worry. Find out what you love and see if you find the money and time from the job to indulge in it. I think you will be happy with your job.
